Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are used to restore volume and harmony to the face, helping to reverse some of the natural age-related changes that occur with time. Restoration of a fresh, natural, balanced appearance is our goal. Dermal fillers are also used to treat static lines which arise due to volume loss, muscle overactivity, sleeping position and sun-damage.

Results are instant.

Dr Cormac uses only the best quality dermal fillers. We are very proud to offer the Teosyal award winning fillers.

We prefer to use fillers containing an anaesthetic to make treatment more comfortable. Depending on the situation, other forms of local anaesthesia may be recommended including local anaesthetic creams or local nerve blocks.

When considering treatment with dermal fillers, you should arrange an appointment at a reputable clinic for an individual specialist consultation. At The Bloomfield Clinic we undertake a detailed assessment to make sure treatment is both safe and appropriate. We offer advice on suitable types of filler and how they may be used to best effect.

Dr Cormac has undergone specialist training including an MSc in Aesthetic Medicine, trains clinicians in the advanced uses of dermal fillers, and is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London where he helps deliver teaching to current MSc students.

Some clinics may suggest using permanent fillers however we do not recommend this. The commonest types of fillers worldwide are made with hyaluronic acid and these are very safe in specialist hands. They have the added advantage that they can be dissolved if necessary. We also use another type of filler called Ellanse which has the advantage of stimulating collagen production. It is especially useful for treating deeper areas such as cheeks. It has a very good safety record.

We welcome any questions you have and it is important to us that you feel 100% comfortable before the procedure takes place.

Dermal Filler Q & A’s

How long does a dermal filler treatment take?

A dermal filler treatment from the Bloomfield Clinic in Ayrshire will usually take approximately 30 mins.

How long does it take before my dermal filler treatment will show?

Dermal filler results are instant.

How long do dermal filler results last for?

Your dermal filler result will usually last  between six and 12 months. This will depend on the type of filler as well as the area treated.

Lips treatments, for example, don't last as long due to the amount of movement as well as the need to use a soft filler in this area.

Which areas can dermal fillers enhance?

- lip augmentation
- smokers lines
- nose to mouth lines (naso-labial)
- reduction of scars
- augmentation of cheeks and temples
- correction of jaw line
- nose (non-surgical rhinoplasty)

Are there any side effects?

After your dermal filler treatment it is usual for there to be some swelling and redness which is easily covered with mineral based make up, and usually disappears within 1-2 days. It is possible that you may develop some bruising at the injection site - many believe arnica is useful in treating this.

There is a low risk of developing inflammatory reactions, from weeks to months following treatment.

Very rarely the filler can cause a ‘vasular occlusion’ where there is impairment of blood supply to the tissues.

All potential side-effects have recognised treatment and Dr Cormac has a special interest in the management and prevention of side-effects.

Are there any contraindications for having dermal fillers?

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding you should not have dermal fillers. Any skin infection should be dealt with before proceeding with treatment.
